This policy explains what personal information RufcRules (rufcrules.co.uk) collects when you visit, why we collect it and what we do with it. We are based in the United Kingdom and follow UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR.
Who we are
RufcRules is a rugby website covering rules, guides, kit reviews, news and training. Our website address is https://rufcrules.co.uk.
What we collect
Visitor statistics. We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site, such as which pages are read and roughly where visitors come from. It uses cookies and collects information such as your IP address, browser type and device. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept them in our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie Settings link in the footer. We use this only to improve the site. You can learn more and opt out at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Comments. If you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and website you enter, along with your IP address and browser details to help detect spam. Your name and comment are shown publicly. Your email address is not published. If you tick the box to remember your details, they are saved in a cookie on your device for up to one year.
Gravatar. An anonymised version of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to see whether you have a profile picture. Their policy is at automattic.com/privacy.
Server logs. Our web server keeps standard technical logs, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
Cookies
Cookies are small files saved on your device. We use them for site analytics and, if you comment, to remember your details. Third parties such as Google and Amazon may also set cookies, as described below. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though some features may be affected.
Amazon affiliate links
We are a participant in the Amazon EU Associates Programme. When you click an Amazon link on this site, Amazon may set cookies on your device so it can tell the visit came from us and credit us a commission if you buy. We do not receive your personal details or payment information from Amazon. See our Amazon Affiliate Disclosure and Amazon’s privacy notice.
Embedded and external content
Some pages may include content from other sites, such as videos or social media posts. These behave as if you had visited that site and may collect data about you or use their own cookies. We do not control this, so please check their privacy policies.
Score tracker
Our Rugby Score Tracker saves your current match in your own browser storage so a refresh does not lose it. This stays on your device and is never sent to us.
How we use your information
We use your information to run and improve the site, to display and moderate comments, to keep the site secure and to understand which content is useful. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running the site, or your consent where the law requires it. We do not sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
Comments and their details are kept until they are deleted. Analytics data is kept according to Google’s retention settings. Server logs are kept for a short period for security.
Who we share it with
We share data only with the service providers that help run the site: our hosting provider, Google (analytics) and Amazon (affiliate links). We do not share it for any other purpose unless required by law.
Your rights
You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to receive a copy of it. If you have left a comment and want it or your details removed, let us know. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Contact
For any privacy question or request, please get in touch through the site, for example by leaving a comment on any page, and we will respond as soon as we can.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version is always on this page.
